Three snacks you’ll find at any Nigerian party, and in the appetisers at K’s Spice. What each one is.
Some Nigerian snacks will look familiar to British eyes, but they’re made a little differently. Here are three from our appetisers.
Nigerian meat pie
A Nigerian meat pie is a half-moon of short, buttery pastry filled with minced meat, diced potato and carrot, cooked with onion, curry powder and thyme. It’s baked, and eaten warm or cold. It’s one of the best known Nigerian snacks, sold at bakeries, parties and on the street.
Scotch egg
The scotch egg is a British invention that became a Nigerian favourite. It’s a boiled egg wrapped in seasoned sausage meat or minced meat, coated in breadcrumbs and fried.
Chin chin
Chin chin is small, crunchy pieces of fried sweetened dough. It’s cut into little squares or strips, fried until golden and hard, and eaten as a snack. It keeps well, so it’s often made in big batches for parties and Christmas.
Our chin chin is marked vegan on our Just Eat listing.
More small chops
Our appetisers also include puff-puff, akara, moi-moi, suya, stick meat, chicken drumsticks, gizzard, asun, turkey, pomo, mackerel and snails. Our guides to puff-puff, akara and moi-moi and suya explain a few of them.
