· 2 min read

New to Nigerian food, or just new to us? A simple way to order your first meal at K’s Spice in Erith.

If you’ve never eaten Nigerian food before, our menu can look long and full of names you don’t know. Here’s a simple way to build your first meal.

Start with small chops

Our appetisers are what Nigerians call small chops. Good first picks:

  • Puff-puff: sweet fried dough balls, three to a portion. See our guide to puff-puff.
  • Suya: spiced grilled meat on sticks. The spice usually contains peanuts. See suya and stick meat.
  • Plantain: fried ripe plantain, sweet and soft. See dodo.

Then choose rice or soup

There are two main ways to go.

A rice dish. Jollof rice is the most-liked dish on our Uber Eats menu. It comes with fried beef, assorted or fish, and plantain if you want it. Read about jollof rice.

A soup with swallow. Egusi and efo riro are the most-liked soups on our Uber Eats menu. They come with pounded yam, amala or eba, and beef, assorted or fish. If you’re new to swallow, choose pounded yam. Read what swallow is and how to eat it.

If you like heat

Try pepper soup, asun or ayamase. Tell us if you’d like it milder. See our guides to pepper soup, asun and ayamase.

Something to drink

Try a Nigerian malt drink such as Maltina, or a Nigerian beer such as Star or Gulder. Our guide to Nigerian drinks explains the choices.
